I’m in denial. Summer isn’t over. The sun may be threatening to set at lunch time soon but I’m still lusting over warm rays and languid evenings bathed in gold. One way I’m keeping my delusions alive is through my beauty regime, which is all about how to keep a summer glow – without the orange palms and excessive highlighter. These are my five hero products for body and face, can be used daily and are all very well under the price of a plane ticket but still give you those holiday feels.
1. Rodin Olio lusso
This luxury product is so beautiful and that statement goes beyond packaging and appearance to its scent and texture. Oils are my favourite way to moisturise and this edition from the Mermaid Collection really perks me up on a gloomy autumnal day. Packed with hyaluronic acid, the sea kelp and sambac body oil isn’t greasy in the slightest and magics away any chalky lizard-skin legs.
2. James Read Gradual Tan H2o Tan Drops
I’m not into sun beds or lying out roasting, waiting for skin cancer. I’m strictly a SPF50 kind of girl. I also have had the worst experience with self-tan, back when I was 18 I decided to douse myself before Oxford uni open day which also happened to be on a 30 degree day. I spent hours sweating and emanating that quintessential stench, way more than I should have. Anyway, these clear face drops from James Read do have a hint of that scent but none of the associated tangerine marks. So far, I have no complaints and as someone who doesn’t desire to be the hue of an Hermes box, this seems to be the tanning product for me. Designed to be applied with your moisturiser, they’re also customisable depending on how bronze you’d like to convince everyone else you are. Use on the neck and massage down to the décolletage, as you would with your regular regime.
3. Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base
If bronzer isn’t done well, your whole face could end up looking like the toasty side of a pancake and just as flat. What I love about Chanel’s creamy, buildable formula melts into the skin and creates a lovely, even-toned base for foundation or concealer. Often, I’ll go out with a swipe of this over my complexion for a subtle glow, with a little blush. Not to mention, it’s also one of the prettiest things on my dressing table.
4. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops
Moonlight is my absolute favourite shade, the perfect mix of true metallic gold that leaves the silkiest sheen. It looks epic under a flash light and it’s never demanded midday touchups from me. I use this as a highlighter on my cupid’s bow and cheekbones but a tiny amount over Mac makeup’s Prep + Prime spritz, before your foundation, does wonders.
5. Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Use D’Or
I work my way through bottles of this French brand’s regular body oil every night like no other. The cult favourite with gold sparkles is saved for day use, when it really has a chance to catch the light and shimmer.
