WHAT I WORE AND WHERE TO GET THE LOOKS: VERSAILLES

Where to shop editorial looks

My recent trip to Versailles was not just about experiencing the beauty of the French countryside and visiting heritage sites but also changing my social media game. For a while I’ve been struggling between producing content that’s truly native to Instagram and following the expected cookie-cutter blogger content. I won’t pretend it’s been torture, it can be fun to spot a flower wall and take a cute photo in front of it. However, it wasn’t really true to my ‘brand’ and where I see The Haute Heel going. And it’s not to say I won’t take on commercial work or abandon lifestyle images altogether, I’d just like to invest more time and effort into art. Why not put more effort into imagining different stories and contexts for clothes that are made to be worn? So here are all of the editorials that we shot in France and my guide on where to shop them on the high street and online, because it’s not always easy tracking down fabulous pieces!

Not much can beat the tailoring of this Malene Oddershede dress, it’s perfectly asymmetrical and contains two zips so the material never bunches up at the back or sides, leaving the smoothest silhouette.

Not everything was made for petite ladies in mind, particularly when it comes to high fashion – but that’s no deterrent for me. I loved wearing this top as a dress, with some tap shorts underneath to break up the ‘nakedness’. I loved the girlish 60’s vibe of the outfit, which was probably my most unexpected one that I shot at Versailles.

Despite the material of this dress, it was incredibly light and very sheer. I thought it would be a nightmare to shoot in hot weather but it’s incredibly wearable. I loved the yellow gold tones and played on the unusual colour with holographic gloss and glitter pieces (optional for the everyday look, of course).

This dress is incredibly simple but just amazing to style and wear. The colour blocking mixed with the variations of sheerness in the panels made this one of my surprising favourites this trip. It’s elegance is so luxurious but it’s also universally wearable.

I was attracted to the sheer panels of nude tulle and the intricate, artsy stitching from the moment I laid eyes on it. It’s craftsmanship makes it so beautiful to wear, and arguably this was the hardest dress to find similar pieces for that you can recreate elsewhere.
