Recently, I’ve been influenced by the idea that identity is fluid and modular – we can pick and choose who and what we are, and when we are. We are no longer confined to the labels assigned by others. Our dependency on algorithms on news feeds and our self-constructed filter bubble has also meant that we maintain and enjoy the sphere we live in. And so much of this construct has been fuelled by social media and how many of us live online just as much as we do ‘irl’. Now these boundaries are blurred and some may say, the virtual world is just as significant and relevant as the physical. Kind of like how fashion is always one season ahead; so we keep an eye out for our Spring Summer wardrobe while wrapped up in cashmere.
Philippe Starck’s collection of Ipanema sandals gave me a foray into thinking about my style and inspiration for (hopefully) warmer days ahead. Of lazy mornings and afternoons filled with wild flowers, flickering candles, sketching and Champagne. Who’s in?

About the Philippe Starck Ipanema collection
This collection of ergonomic sandals were created by Philippe Starck, known for his architectural and interior work. Sleek in appearance and with light ankle support, the luxe casual footwear from this collaboration was made with 100% recyclable materials. And my favourite part – they were also assembled by hand to align with the artisanal work of its designer.
How I styled it
These sandals aren’t your usual poolside slip-ons, they’re one of the most luxe and contemporary designs out there. To compliment it’s classic yet minimal aesthetic, I went for a feminine and summery look. I love the idea of a heavy, tulle maxi skirt in contrast barely-there footwear and a simple crop top. I’d take this look to a picnic with friends or a day out shopping and socialising. All in above 20 degree weather, of course.
