Living in Singapore, it sometimes feels like crop tops and high waisted shorts are always on trend. And I get it – when it’s 30 degrees outside and humid, you don’t really want to wear much else. But what about the numerous shopping malls, taxis and the worst of them all – cinema theatres – where it’s like 14 degrees. Here are four outfits to wear in air conditioning (yes, I am serious) that will keep you stylishly layered for this island’s ferocious indoor mini climate.
1. Layering prints
Prints and feathers? If you’re not just that little bit extra about your styling, what’s the point of trying? Keeping to neutral tones like beige and pinks, the range of textures and patterns are played down. I’d wear this to drinks or dinner with friends, probably somewhere that has the room temperature of a deep freezer.
2. The playsuit
I picked up this playsuit from Zara and loved the high neckline and full length sleeves. Perfect for when you’re in air-conditioning and don’t have to worry about your goosebumps standing to attention. I paired this romper with black booties and a classic oxblood Saint Laurent bag for shopping and coffee with friends. Shopping malls are one of the top five places in Singapore to die of frost bite (no, not really).
3. Classic with a twist
I’ve suddenly found myself in love with Glen plaid and picked up these high waisted trousers. I styled it with a preppy schoolboy blazer from Ralph Lauren and a sequin peplum top from Markus Lupfer, which depending on where you work, could be appropriate office attire. Because offices are definitely high on the list for coldest places in Singapore.
