The Snow White Dress

This is one of my dresses that I was really excited to shoot because to me it is quite unusual. The prettiness of the flouncy skirt and the eyelets remind me of the pastel dream that was the Louis Vuitton S/S carousel show. At first the off-the-shoulder sleeves were questionable, they remind me of 90's wedding dresses and medieval princesses, but these are so cute and they make the dress cross over from simple day-wear to a pseudo -costume. It will be like a fancy dress party for one every time I wear this. These photos were taken by Alex Stewart and there will be more from him coming up! I love the effect of these photos, they are so vivid in colour and it all came from the camera that he used.

I love wearing dresses to church, especially in the summer when it is the perfect opportunity. Although I have had this shift dress for years, the ballet flats are a new purchase for the summer. Nude flats are so versatile and Chanel pumps are so iconic, this is one of my classic summer looks. The leather on the outside is so delicate yet the actual toe cap is so tough that it took quite a while to break in.The bangle I am wearing was from Thailand and is made of teal- dyed stingray skin. These photos were taken outside one of my favourite buildings in London, The Langham Hotel that also has the prettiest tea room.

Shopping secrets: Invite- only sample sales + access to designer discounts

MY EXPERIENCE ON HOW TO 'SHOP SMART'. I have realised that a lot of my friends are either interning or working at fashion houses which means that they have certain perks that most fashion- obsessed people would envy. Even corporate discounts allow 10%- 20% off at most high street stores. I would check with your connections about their company policies, but a lot of places are quite relaxed about letting their employees buy for their friends.

I know that places like Burberry have 40% off for staff, and their sample sales are invite- only but take off up to 90%. Christian Louboutin have an invite- only sale of 40% off,  and net-a-porter.com has something in the region of 50% for employees. I have been to Christopher Kane (they gave out free t-shirts once), Nicholas Kirkwood (shoes for £100!), Erdem, Dolce and Gabbana, McQueen (chiffon white floor- length gown for £99 anyone?) and they have incredible reductions. I think this is the way to go if you are on a budget, your size constantly fluctuates or you want to 'shop smart'.

People I know that have interned at the HQ's of certain brands also know the 'real worth' of some of these items, so if you think you have seen something similar in a market in Asia for significantly less, perhaps that piece is not worth paying £300, even after 50% off. Personally I have been inside fashion PR offices and that little price tag that they hang there for fashion buyers are revealing of how high some department stores mark up their goods. Of course this is natural profit and nothing new to anyone but because wholesale prices are inaccessible to normal shoppers, it is always worth waiting for sales which somewhat equalizes the base price from the retail price. Those that know their style well might do better aesthetically, financially and space- wise to focus on a curated wardrobe. I think bloggers like Chicmuse do this well, she reuses many pieces but it is never repetitive, and in fact I always associate Prada satin platforms with her style.

Sample sale seasons occur roughly around twice annually in London, in November and late April- May, so it is worth investing. At least for me, impulse shopping throughout the year often leaves me with odd pieces that I end up giving away a few months later. Browsing with my boyfriend always leads to taking embossed tissue- stuffed glossy bags home. Yet because of the amount of discounts between us that we are entitled to, I don't feel too guilty. Especially when divorcing old clothes is just too expensive and messy when things are said like, 'you were always too big for me anyway'.

UPDATE- Dover Street Market sale last day 13/05/2012 70% Comme des Garcons and 75% off all other brands (YSL, Lanvin, Proenza Schouler)

UPDATE #2- Christopher Kane 2012 Mercer Street 31st May, Alexander McQueen 29th- 1st May Clerkenwell Road, East London
Also search on TimeOut for See by Chloe, True Religion etc.

French Pink

I came across this French designer Chantal Thomass whose aesthetic is somewhere in between Hello Kitty, Wildfox and Moulin Rouge. Quite a fun and unusual mix. She also does interiors through collaborations to create a boudoir, Madame du Pompadour kind of lifestyle. These photos from the lookbook were too cute to not share.

I was just browsing my collection of editorial photos for MY TUMBLR and I cannot believe that I missed out on this amazing photo! Lately there hasn't been as much time as I would like as I am currently waiting on a new camera and my usual photographers as well as myself are completely overwhelmed with exams. Tumblr is such a quick and fun way of keeping up with the world of fashion blogging. As for the photo... I love everything about it, the sensuous femininity associated with nature, the delicate pink lace jumpsuit and of course the unmistakably popular pink hair.
Enjoy!
